Experience the allure of this historical Colonial home in charming Old Mystic. The perfect location! 5 min from “Old Mystic” Villiage & Mystic Aquarium. 10 min from downtown Mystic and 15-20 min from Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos!

This property can comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests with its first-floor family room, living room with dining area, and office/bedroom. On the second floor, you'll find two bedrooms, one with additional space perfect for smaller family members and a convenient washer and dryer. NOTE: Stairs to the second floor are steep and narrow.

"Last House on The River" was originally built in 1797; along with its many updates, it still holds many of its original features, like the warming box in the fireplace, the steep, narrow and tapered custom colonial staircase, and the stone steps that lead from the backyard down to the top of the Mystic River. The beautifully updated kitchen has cherry cabinets, granite counters, and stainless steel appliances that will impress any chef. The modern appliances make a perfect complement to the historic charm of this home. Gas stove top. Guests can choose to cook their meals or order from the numerous delicious and award-winning local restaurants.

The living room is very cozy, and for those nights when you want to relax, the smart TVs are fully equipped for your movie-watching needs. The original 1797 fireplaces provide an added touch of warmth and charm but are just for aesthetics now. Beautiful old-style wide plank floors keep with the historic charm of Mystic while offering modern touches throughout the home. This house represents the perfect combination of new and old, giving your stay a unique character.

The backyard patio is a true highlight of this vacation home. It offers the luxury of an inground pool and combines an attractive and inviting atmosphere that stands out from other properties. The patio is an ideal spot to relax and unwind, bask under the sun in the comfort of lounge chairs while sipping refreshing drinks. The lush and verdant surroundings lend a serene ambiance that makes you feel like a peaceful oasis. The pool area offers a beautiful yard that emphasizes the home's charm, creating a beautiful space to gather with friends and family. Plus, the Mystic River anchors the back of the property, providing just one more magical touch.

The Pool is naturally heated by the sun and is typically open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Weather dependant.

Sleeping Accommodations

- Main level: Full bed in the private bedroom off the living room.

The front living space has a pull-out full bed and a privacy door on one entrance, but the entrance leading to the dining room can not be closed off.

There is a half bath on the Main level. To use the full bath on the second floor, guests will go upstairs (steep and narrow) and through one of the King bedrooms. AGAIN, stairs to the second floor are steep and narrow.

- Second Level: 2 King Size private bedrooms with shared full bath. The second bedroom has a small child's nook providing a place to play and a toddler bed. Because of the age of the house and narrow staircase, the king beds are made up of 2 twins connected by a bed connector in the center.

This is an old house. The stairs to the second floor are steep and narrow. Please note this before booking.

In addition, the guest refrigerator is slightly smaller than a standard refrigerator.

This property is located in Old Mystic on the Groton town line, so some vacation sites use Groton as the town instead of Mystic.

There is parking for two cars in the driveway. No street parking.

There is a security camera on the front of the house and one on the back overlooking the yard and pool area. These cameras are for security only and are not monitored during guests stays unless we receive a complaint.

Reviews

Lovely setting
4/5 stars
This home's backyard setting is a lovely retreat like setting that allows you to unwind, relax, read, paint or gather together comfortably. Great pool! Great living room for tv watching on downtime. The house does have what you need, not lacking for anything in the kitchen. The stairs are steep as stated. It's a slow trek up with bad hips or knees and impossible for my 92 yr old mother to go up to use the shower. Only a half bath on the first floor so rent accordingly. The house is historical so can be musty especially on humid days. Missed not being able to open a window upstairs when we didn't want the air conditioner on. In a great location, close to Mystic attractions and restaurants. Overall, a nice place to rent.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for your kind words about our Mystic house. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and found the property to be a nice place to rent. We appreciate your feedback about the steep stairway and the age of the house. We strive to be as transparent as possible in our listing to ensure guests have a clear understanding of what to expect. We're sorry that these aspects detracted from your experience, as our goal is always to provide a five-star stay. We want to note that the charm of our home lies in its historic character, which does come with some quirks, like the steep staircase. We hope that our clear communication in the listing helps set the right expectations, and we're always available to answer any questions before booking. Thank you again for your review, and we hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future, striving to deliver a five-star experience.

Nice…ish
3/5 stars
This historic home was charming and the pool was nice. The stairs were very narrow and steep but that’s to be expected in a historic home. The shower didn’t have consistent hot water - it was very hot for maybe the first 45 seconds and then only cool/lukewarm. Additionally, we were apparently expected to bring our own toilet paper. There was only one partially used roll in each bathroom which wasn’t even enough to last the 2 nights we stayed. I’ve never rented a home that didn’t supply toilet paper and found that incredibly bizarre (and also frustrating… especially considering the cost was $2,000 for 2 nights after fees). There also were no cleaning supplies for the counters for nights we cooked in. We were also asked to water the patio plants which seemed a bit of a strange request. The room and window unit air conditioners were sufficient to keep the house cool. Aside from cobwebs on most of the ceilings the home was decently clean.
- Rubia

I wish you had called us regarding the toilet paper. We typically leave a fresh roll for each new guest and another several rolls in the bathroom cabinet. The water all depends on what else is being run and how much water has been used for the day. In no way would we expect you to water the plants for a 2-night stay. We ask our longer guests if they wouldn't mind watering during the hot months so that future guests can continue to enjoy the amazing plants our homeowner has planted for guests. We also mention that if longer guests are unable to water the potted plants we would send someone to do so. We are extremely accessible and accommodating. If you had just given us a ring and made us aware we could have made sure your experience was at the level we strive for.
